Part of the Human Comedy series
Caodaism is one strange religion. The religious sect absorbs the rituals and teachings of all the major religions and ideologies. Followers of Caodaism worship the gods and saints venerated by other faiths. The sect’s revered gods and saints include Jesus, Buddha, Muhammad, Confucius, Vishnu and…..Victor Hugo. I have no idea how Victor Hugo got in there but this is totally true. Other notable saints and sages include Joan of Arc, Julius Caesar, Thomas Jefferson, Shakespeare, Napoleon, Leo Tolstoy and Louis Pasteur. The atheists are represented by Lenin and Karl Marx.

The sect’s hierarchy is based on Roman Catholicism. The head of the sect is called pope, followed by cardinals and archbishops. The idea is to bring spiritual harmony to the world through the fusion of faiths.
