Trends / Predictions

✪ Men's tennis enters the new year with a lot of question marks, as a number of top players are returning after a long layoff due to injuries. Two of these top players (Murray and Raonic) are expected to participate in the first tournament of 2018. Top overall seeds have won this event five of the nine editions played for a 56-percent success rate. Andy Murray was the only player to successfully defend his Brisbane title. Defending champion Grigor Dimitrov is looking to replicate that feat.

Top 5 seeds: Grigor Dimitrov, Andy Murray, Nick Kyrgios, Milos Raonic, Gilles Muller
Former champions: Dimitrov, Raonic, Murray (2)

✪ The first women's tennis event of 2018 will not feature Serena Williams. The two-time winner is skipping this event in favor of Aukland. There are still plenty of quality players in this field, headlined by reigning Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza. Top overall seeds have won four of the nine editions played. Also, big servers have performed extremely well at this event. Williams, Sharapova, Pliskova and Kvitova all have won in Brisbane.

Top 5 seeds: Garbine Muguruza, Karolina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina, Caroline Garcia, Johanna Konta
Former champions: Pliskova, Petra Kvitova, Kaia Kanepi**
Top servers: Pliskova, Konta, Kvitova, Madison Keys, Ashleigh Barty

✪ The event is played on the same hardcourt surface as the one at the Australian Open. Players with a good record at the Aussie Open tend to also play well here.
