Brazil has historically dominated the world championships in beach volleyball. Their men's teams won six out of ten contested championships, while their women's teams won five of ten. All four Brazilian teams on the men side in Vienna are the top seeds of their respective groups. If they finished first of their groups as expected, they have a realistic chance of fielding four teams in the quarterfinals! Brazil also has four top seeded teams on the women side and five teams in total. Mathematically, there is a strong probability that the beach-loving country will achieve the golden double.

Odds of winning at least 2 medals: 100%
Odds of winning one gold medal: 88%
Odds of winning two gold medals: 70%

The German duo Ludwig–Walkenhorst are the Olympic champions, but the Brazilians are the favorites to win gold in the women event. Laura Ludwig suffered a shoulder injury early in the year and has only seen limited action. Legendary beach player Kerri Jennings recently parted ways with April Ross, whom she won a bronze medal with in Rio.

Predicted women's winner: Larissa–Talita (Brazil)

Things are expected to be more competitive on the men side with a near parity among the top teams. The Brazilian team of Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt is the top favorite, but there are at least four other teams including Dalhausser–Lucena (USA) and Nicolai–Lupo (Italy) who have a chance of winning. Still, Alison-Bruno has won the last four major beach volleyball titles including the Olympics, the World Tour and the last World Championships. Unless there is a major injury, it is hard to go against the most successful partnership at the moment.

Predicted men's winner: Alison–Bruno (Brazil)
