Poetry - Winter Sonata

        By Simon N.
Winter has arrived in a city still asleep.
On a park bench, a lost soul sits in solitude.
Does anyone know what he is thinking?
Maybe he is lamenting why winter has come early
Or maybe he’s reminiscing about the road not taken.

Naked trees are shivering in winter's cold winds.
A young couple is walking silently on an empty street.
Their shrinking lips whisper words we couldn't comprehend.
Maybe they are breaths of parting air on a chilling morning
Or maybe they are lyrics of a sad melody.

The serene lake is transforming into an insipid mirror.
Cormorants search frantically for their last prey.
What will their future hold?
Maybe winter will leave early
Or maybe they will get lost in winter's sonata.
