Favorites - Sense and Sensibility

Sense and Sensibility was the first published work of famed English writer Jane Austen (d. 1917). The story follows the lives of two sisters, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, whose personalities are polar opposites. Elinor represents "Sense" while Marianne represents "Sensibility". Austen uses the contrast and merging of personalities to criticize the social attitudes of her times. This work is often labeled as a comedy of manners.
